Overview

CPA Communications is a public relations and strategic management agency working across the commercial, not-for-profit and charity sectors. We've worked with the team in one form or another for over a decade.

The agency recently restructured and changed its name. Its expertise was built in shipping — running international maritime events and designing a world-first responsible supply chain programme aligned with the UN Guiding Principles in 2013 — but it now wants to branch out in to other sectors. That meant a new brand, and a new website.

Refining the brand

CPA's logo was designed in-house. We kept it, modernised it slightly, and built the rest of the identity around it — a colour palette and new fonts for the site.

The groundwork

We undertook a stringent planning phase including research, content strategy, site mapping and wire-framing.

Bringing things to life

As a company CPA puts a high value on people, environment, and wellbeing. We settled on a warm, welcoming design that reflects this – drawing on their archive of photography.

Visual Editing

We implemented the Sanity content management system to allow the team to edit and build entire pages visually with a library of pre-built components.

Accessibility

It was important that the site was as accessible as possible for all that use it. As well as following WCAG 2.2 AA guidelines, we selected a body font specifically for clarity and implemented bespoke tools like a colour contrast checker when composing colour schemes.

Speed

When we build a site, performance is always a first-class citizen. The faster and leaner a site is, the more likely people are to continue to explore, no matter the device or speed of internet.

We employed Astro’s new route caching feature along with Cloudflare’s CDN to ensure the site always has a near-instant page load.
